Some people who deeply believed electrolyzed water is beneficial to health spent tens of thousands of dollars to purchase electrolyzers. Dr. Lu, Fung-Jou, professor of Chung Shan Medial University, performed animal experiments with his tools and found some experimental results in cells and mice by water with the controllable pH value, for example, the water inducing death of leukemia cells, reducing the GOT/GPT index or the cholesterol level, and alleviating renal injuries attributed to cancer drugs.

Electrolyzed water for health care rather than medical treatment

Dr. Lu reiterated electrolyzed water is good at health care rather than medical treatment and people who are ill should visit a doctor. “The functions of commercial electrolyzers I did not verify could not be analogous to my experimental results” said Dr. Lu.

“The electrolyzers were ordinary merchandises,” Ms. Chan, Subsection Chief of Food and Drug Administration Section, Health Bureau of Taichung City, said “Dr. Lu’s research were animal experiments but not clinically proven evidences for any curative effect. Any person who violated the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act shall be fined NTD 600 thousand to 25 million. A patient should seek normal medical advices but not drink electrolyzed water only.”

Dr. Lu explained the theorem of electrolyzed water. He said that electrolyzed and reduced water contains dissolved alkaline minerals with calcium, magnesium or potassium ions which are used to remove deleterious acidic chloride, sulfuric acid and nitryl. Using redox potentials of electrolyzed water in his cell experiments, Dr. Lu found that 80% of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were removed by electrolyzed water which induced death of leukemia cells by enhancing glutathione.

Dr. Lu’s animal experiments were published in the international journal. In his animal experiments, he chose mice with the symptom of carbon tetrachloride poisoning as subjects and fed them with electrolyzed water. Dr. Lu’s findings such as weight decrements of mice’s poisoned livers and spleens attributed to carbon tetrachloride and less liver fibrosis were published in the medical journal, “Food and Chemical Toxicology”. Furthermore, his experiments also proved cholesterols, triglycerides, and activities of GOT & GPT were reduced by electrolyzed water. Having fed mice with electrolyzed water and injected Cisplatin, an anticancer drug, into their bodies, Dr. Lu found the symptom of nephrotoxicity induced by Cisplatin was alleviated. “I intend to cooperate with physicians for human experiments on diabetics in the next stage”, said Dr. Lu.
